How do you think gender influences religion and literature?

Gender and how it’s portrayed in religion/literature reflects how it was viewed in the time it was made or how it was viewed in the time period of the story. Women historically are given very pedestrian and domestic roles in stories and religion as it was used to enforce their role in society. Eve tricked Adam into eating the apple and created evil, placing that blame onto women from the very start. Men are often the protagonist in literature, being the strong, capable here while women are usually the mistress, or the temptress, or some type of maternal figure. Fortunately, at least on the literary front, women are gaining roles that were predominately male. They can be the hero without needing a love interest or relying on a man in some way. They don’t have to give up their life in stories to settle down and have children. The continual rise of feminism since the Rosie the Riveters movement has encouraged more equality in writing. I have very limited knowledge on the religious side of things, but as far as I can tell, religion doesn’t really adapt with the times. There are no women popes and wives are still objectified in a lot of religions. Literature adapts faster than religion, and with more acknowledgement and acceptance of the range of genders, there’s more diversity in literature. The protagonist could be a transgender woman or man, they could be gender fluid or agender, they could identify however they’re comfortable and it brings validation to those identifications to the reader who may be looking for representation.
